Xena Warrior Pricess: Snow Plow Driver

Hello,
I've seen a snow plow on a truck that was plastic. Would you happen to know the manufacturer of this type of lightweight plow and where I could purchase one?
Do you have any tips for a soon to be first time plower?
Do you recommend a universal plow for a '93 Dodge Dakota?
Your expertise will be greatly appreciated.
In snowy Chicago,
Zena

Hi Xena,
I am a big fan.
The plow you saw was most likely a SnoWay Predator. The plow moldboard is made out of Lexan ( this is a G.E. product commonly used in aircraft windows ), the rest of the plow is made of steel.
SnoWay recommends the Predator ST1880S for your Dakota. On our guest columnist page there is a nice article for first time plowers.
On our links page you will find links both to SnoWay and to PlowsUnlimited. Both are good sites for SnoWay information and assistance.
The SnoWay Predator ST 18 series plow is a very good choice for compact pickups.

Mr. Plow,
I have a 98 ford expedition. Ford does not recomend a snowplow for this vehicle. Sno-way and pathfinder make a plow for the vehicle. Am I a risk using these on the vehicle?
Steve

Hello Steve,
With newer Fords you always have to go to the driver's door to read the front axle rating. You can never exceed the front axle rating.
If your Expedition has a (GAWR front) in excess of 3450 pounds you can safely use a factory recommended SnoWay plow.
I am not sure of the requirements for a Pathfinder plow. You could send Fred Hone of Pathfinder a E mail at fth90@ids.net for their requirement.
SnoWay can be reached at 1-800-662-1453 for further technical assistance. Follow the guidelines in the instruction book, that comes with the plow. Enjoy what is left of the winter season.

Hello Mr. Plow,
I just got into the business using my Polaris 4x4 ATV. It works very well and I was wondering about the Snow-way plow company. Are their plows any good?
I always thought I would go with a Western, but I have heard a-lot about the see through Snow-way plow, and more and more landscapers are using them here in Cincinnati. Do you know anything about it?
Thanks,
Brett Bartling

Hi Brett,
Snoway plows are direct linked. This is so your truck and plow travel as one, instead of the plow bouncing up and down.
It is much easier to push Lexan through snow than steel; saves fuel and drive train wear.
SnoWay plows are lighter; less front axle wear.
On 24 ,25 and 28 series plows on demand hydraulic downward force is available.
Great plows.

Mr. Plow,
What do you think of snoway plows? And do you think they are as good as some of the old names like Myers, Western, Boss? Do you think it is a bad idea to install a plow on a Toyota Tacoma or a S-10 blazer?
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Mike & Heather

Hi,
SnoWay plows compare very favorably with any of the brands that you mentioned. It some cases out perform them.
The SnoWay Predator L1880S will work very well on a S-10 or a Tacoma.
To find a SnoWay dealer near you, see the dealer locator at www.snoway.com or call them at 1-800-662-1453.
Happy plowing!!
Mr. Plow

I have been searching for a snow plow that will mount on a Toyota Tundra. Is anyone making a snow plow for that truck that is capable of plowing small parking lots? I understand that the light duty front axle is the issue.

You're right, the Tundra's front end is too light for most light commercial snow plows. However, SnoWay International manufactures a plow called the SnoWay Predator L1890S that will work quite well for your needs. As of this date SnoWay is the only manufacturer building a electric over hydraulic snow plow for the front of this truck, that I know of.
