Summer is a good time to buy - Maybe

I am now looking for some new equipment and find that some dealers are willing to move products that they have had sitting over the spring and summer.  It seems others are taking the leftover product and just marking it up because they got new product in at a higher price.  SHould be interesting.  It also seems some of the dealers are quoting the exact same price which seems a bit weird - I will need to look into this a bit more.

Thanks Mike - Interesting - Still seems that the pricing should be whatever the market will bear.  If a guy has leftover inventory he should be able to discount it to get it gone.  I am going to do a bunch of research before buying because I like to be sure I get the best deal.

SnowMan, There is an interesting trend happening in the snow and ice world where the manufacturers are limiting the lowest possible price that a dealer can advertise at.  This has been going on for quite a while in other industries like the lawn and garden industry and it is actually legal.  The terminology they all use is something called "MAPP Pricing"  and it is used to keep pricing in alignment throughout the country. By limiting the lowest advertised price, the manufacturers are trying to knock out the guys that just want to move volume - these characters typically offer reduced customer service which ends up hurting the reputation of the manufacturer.  I will look for more information on this and share on this site.
