Whether you're company is already on Facebook, or is still on the perpetual merry-go-round, changes are coming. Initially, Facebook had planned to launch its new "Timeline" profile's on October 1, however because of some legal issues, that has been delayed. Which means, you still have time to learn and decide what the new profiles will do for you and your brand.
According to a recent study, in August 2010, the average Facebook user spent just under 6 hours a week on Facebook. In just over a year, the average is up to over 8 hours per week. Now, that may not seem like much, but when you consider the nearly endless possibilities of how people spend their time online, that number has a little more impact. Now, after that little tidbit of goodness, let's get into the new Timeline and examine what it can do for your business.
Showcase Your Products
The first thing that you will probably notice on the picture above is the large main photo. This is enabled for all users, and allows you to showcase your products, brand or service. It essentially gives you the ultimate chance to say "Here we are, this is what we are about!" and we all know pictures speak louder than words.
Share Your Brand's Story
This is, in my opinion, the biggest reason to jump on the Facebook bandwagon now if you haven't done so. The new timeline allows you to showcase your story, your history for everyone to see. This is especially critical for small and mid sized businesses. One of the things that many of these brands rely on is their history. For many, its a companies beginnings and foundation within a community or industry that keep them coming back. So for these businesses to be able to share those beginnings with a wider audience can only bring good things.
The point is, it will allow your brand to better engage with online users. You now have the opportunity to share your story, your triumphs, your voice in a more effective way with the new timeline. So what are you waiting for? Share your story.
